Our SportVarsity is a combination of three Sydney-based University Touch clubs:
Varsity enter teams in the Men’s and Women’s divisions of Vawdon Cup and the NSW State Cup (Varsity Touch Association 2011). Varsity was formed when university touch football clubs faced an uncertain financial future with the introduction of voluntary student unionism in 2005. Key members of the touch football clubs from Sydney University and Macquarie University got together to together to discuss creating an entity separate from university authority. The UTS Touch Club then came on board through its ongoing association with the Sydney University Touch Club (Varsity Touch Association 2011). While Varsity will sit hierarchically above each of the three clubs, each club will continue to handle their own domestic affairs and finances. To conduct it's business, Varsity requires some funding which will come in the form of a membership fee from stakeholders. As the higher body, Varsity will be the vehicle for the elite arm of the clubs by entering representative teams into tournaments conducted under the auspices of the NSWTA. In this regard, Varsity will maintain the relationship of "affiliate" with NSWTA. Varsity shall then commission the member University clubs to conduct satellite competitions on it's behalf. These competitions will be branded with the identity of the club responsible for conducting it to their respective player bases. |
